Grants to Fiction Writers
In 2003 the Christopher Isherwood Foundation will award five or more grants of $3,000.00 each to fiction writers of exceptional talent. The grants will be awarded to writers who have published at least one book of fiction, either a novel or a collection of stories. The grants are intended to enable writers to set aside time for writing. Application Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by October 1 of each year and received by October 9 of each year. New Grant: The Richard F. Pate Fellowship for Writers
Richard F. Pate, a lawyer from Point Clear, Alabama, has made possible a new grant for novelists. Pate is a graduate of the University of Alabama law school and has practiced law in Mobile.
Doris Roberts, three time Emmy award winner and star of Everyone Loves Raymond, has published an autobiography, Are You Hungry, Dear: Life, Laughs and Lasagna (St. Martin's Press, 2003). This successful book gives insight into her distinguished novelist husband, William Goyen as well. Bill died in 1983. IF appreciates Doris's continued support of writers with the Doris Roberts-William Goyen Fellowship in Fiction.
A short publication of philanthropist James C. McCormick's is available now on the web at www.americanartists.org The piece is called Life's Illusions and concerns Jim's remarkable struggle with polio, major heart attacks and other illinesses. IF also appreciates Barbara McCormick's continued support of writers with the James C. McCormick Fellowship in Fiction. .
